Performing the "Balancing Exercises"

:heartbeat: & :sunny:

My intention here is to invite discussion regarding the "Balancing” techniques referred to in the Ra Contact and Conscious Channeling material.

Perhaps you’re like me in that each time you come across a quote emphasizing the fundamental importance of Balancing one’s daily catalysts, you think, “Oh, right! I should remember this!”—but then somehow…you don’t! …Perhaps this subject could use more discussion?

What are your experiences with the Balancing Exercises?
What are your insights?
What aspects do you struggle with or feel confused about?

I offer my own summary of the Balancing Exercise, breaking it into 6 steps and suggesting a mnemonic device ("MIRROR”) to help remember each.

"M-I-R-R-O-R”

MEDITATE or reflect on today’s thoughts and experiences.

IDENTIFY a (+ or -) catalyst or trigger that pulled your awareness away from that of total acceptance.

RELIVE the trigger, resonating with this thought until you can feel its (+ or -) influence.

REINFORCE or magnify this polarizing influence beyond what was originally felt.

OPPOSE this heightened influence, calling awareness to its energetic opposite.

RESTORE balance to the + and - within you, remembering that you are both Creator and creation.

—Summarized from Q&A w/ Q’uo: Conscious Channeling — June 23, 2022

I offer this, that it may be of some service as we wander our many ways back to the One.

I’ve got to the stage where I attempt to do it in the moment as often as I can rather than waiting for later to re-live in meditation.

So for example if I was to get angry whilst driving that someone cut me off etc I would feel the initial anger that came unknowingly and then as quickly as I can I’ll magnify it to the extreme. Force myself to feel extreme hatred for that person to the point where I can imagine myself driving after them, pulling them from the car etc. And then once I’ve calmed down I imagine the opposite. I ‘imagine’ that in that moment I felt love for them instead. As if they were my child that made a simple error and I look upon them with patience and understanding, knowing full well I don’t know their story or why they may be in a rush.
I forgive them and send them love and I always immediately feel at peace.

Or course if I can’t do it in the moment I will always attempt to re-live the situation in my evening mediation and do the same.

Quo says that some of the best times to mediate are just as the night turns to day and just as the day turns to night as the energies are lower and it’s easier to find peace. So that’s when I meditate.

I’ve held the theory for a while that this really curious exercise Ra suggests to us – intensify the imbalance, intensity its opposite, accept yourself for both poles – says a lot about the nature of emotion as we experience it. It’s very weird because typically we don’t just experience feelings on their own; we experience feelings in specific contexts in which details of their proximate causes of our affects tend to be the most tangible ways to know we’re experiencing something at all. The details of the events that catalyze these emotional responses serve as our handles on these otherwise abstract, ephemeral, and/or fleeting states of consciousness. We otherwise would have a much more difficult time addressing these emotions were there not events that allow us to identify them.

With the balancing techniques of Ra, we are in my fallible and personal opinion learning how to decouple these feeling tones from the events that we believe caused them. This is because part of working with the mind complex and especially the archetypal sector of that complex has to do with the task of purifying emotion. The archetypal mind is most deeply, I believe, these feeling tones, the “primary colors” of the vast spectrum of emotional colors that incarnation allows us to mix up on our palette. To imagine the opposite of an actual felt emotion – not as an abstraction but as something invading your heart right this moment! – is to prompt a kind of weird line of thought if you really try to do it. We learn how to experience this infinity in clearer ways that at once distinguish the feeling tones and simulataneously in purely identifying them seeing their unity with each other. It is in the process of doing this, I argue, that we learn the true roots of our thinking and how to govern our thoughts so that our co-creative potential is more fully realized.

I think it’s important to recognize the difference between balancing as an exercise and balancing as a normal activity we all do. All of our reactions in the moment, enlightened or not, are already by default our best attempts to balance. I would really stress the perennial importance the Confederation places on meditation, because it is in this reflective capacity that we best experience our self-conscious feedback loop that the spirit complex introduces in third density. The idea is not simply to balance, but to balance in a way in which this decoupling can occur. It’s really difficult to do that in the moment because the incarnate experiential nexus, as Ra calls it, is designed to get our attention, and the act of seizing attention is almost the very opposite of reflective contemplation.

EDIT: Another part of our capacity as co-Creator is to be able to work with the full spectrum of this emotional energy. The last part of the exercise, accepting ourselves for having both extremes within us, allows us to have a more equanimous experience of the feeling tone spectrum in question so that we are not alarmed by having things we might not exactly like within us. Even the shadow side of ourselves holds great power and potential, and this balancing allows us to come into a friendly, cooperative relationship with the “wolf within”. Carla and Q’uo often stress that this darker side we don’t like to identify with is where a lot of our grit and tenacity come from, and it’s about balancing it, not expurgating it.

I think it’s a real struggle to do this. It’s difficult, and it’s supposed to be because it’s a completely different way of working with emotion than we’re used to. I have trouble with it, but just like meditation, it’s not about doing it well or poorly but about doing it. You make the most progress when the struggle is the hardest, just like going to the gym!

All of that is personal opinion to be taken with a grain of salt and dismissed if dissonant.

It also occurs to me that, to the extent this exercise works with qualities purely, it also partakes of time/space directly as opposed to the space/time experience of linearly stringing these emotional experiences together.

Interesting conversation.

I take Ra’s balancing suggestions a bit less literally. I don’t often feel a need to exaggerate affect. Instead, I tend to follow it inwardly to understand my subconscious biases.

I view the recommendations, foremost, as ways of doing the most basic work of 3D, viz., what they call “learning the lessons of love.” What are the lessons of love? We each choose different ones to explore, but they can be kindness, consideration, care, gentleness, compassion and so forth. Our challenge is to learn to turn to these affects when confronted with catalyst, even of the most brutal sort., in light of the growing awareness that to love one is to love all is to love self and Divinity.

Why the heck would we want to do that? The answer to that question is exactly what each must find within our own self. This is our “fool’s errand,” if you will. Finding our personal truth regarding these biases within self allows us to “work with 4D light” and then travel on to 4D.

One variety of hindrance we encounter in doing this work are knee-jerk survival responses, for example, or deep feelings of unworthiness or just plain fear. The point of the exercises Ra offers, then, is to give self distance from one’s reflexive emotional responses to catalyst by exploring a range of possible responses. They’re a way of getting us out of our ruts, and when we embrace a broad range of potential emotional reactions, we can more easily and more skillfully choose a creative response to a particular situation. In a sense, they’re a way of decoupling automatic affect from the shallow personality.

This may perhaps lead to having the freedom to respond to brutality with compassion–or not–for instance, as we would deliberately choose in a given situation, rather than automatically responding in a shallow manner.

There are some interesting sessions discussing shallow versus deep emotions, by the way, which leads back to a topic @Jeremy alluded to above.

Anyhow, as to my own process, the overcharged or undercharged emotional responses I catch myself having, I tend to sit with them to understand their “specific gravity.” If they feel heavy (like some infantile neediness was triggered, for example), I might offer it love from my heart. If it turns out I’ve grabbed a tiger by the tail, then I just wait for it to settle down, and that may not get resolved at that time. I TRY to show gratitude for finding one more thing that needs love, which I can offer love, but there are times when that affect is not top of mind, let’s just say. I try to remember that positive spin on it because I am genuinely grateful for being able to take one more step towards wholeness of being.

I noticed Ra are saying about balancing of the mind.

5.2

5.2 Questioner: We have decided to accept, if offered, the honor/duty of learning/teaching the healing process. I would ask as to the first step which we should accomplish in becoming effective healers.

Ra: I am Ra. We shall begin with the first of the three teachings/learnings.

We begin with the mental learn/teachings necessary for contact with intelligent infinity. The prerequisite of mental work is the ability to retain silence of self at a steady state when required by the self. The mind must be opened like a door. The key is silence.

Within the door lies an hierarchical construction you may liken unto geography and in some ways geometry, for the hierarchy is quite regular, bearing inner relationships.

To begin to master the concept of mental discipline it is necessary to examine the self. The polarity of your dimension must be internalized. Where you find patience within your mind you must consciously find the corresponding impatience and vice versa. Each thought that a being has, has in its turn an antithesis. The disciplines of the mind involve, first of all, identifying both those things of which you approve and those things of which you disapprove within yourself, and then balancing each and every positive and negative charge with its equal. The mind contains all things. Therefore, you must discover this completeness within yourself.

The second mental discipline is acceptance of the completeness within your consciousness. It is not for a being of polarity in the physical consciousness to pick and choose among attributes, thus building the roles that cause blockages and confusions in the already-distorted mind complex. Each acceptance smoothes part of the many distortions that the faculty you call judgment engenders.

The third discipline of the mind is a repetition of the first but with the gaze outward towards the fellow entities that it meets. In each entity there exists completeness. Thus, the ability to understand each balance is necessary. When you view patience, you are responsible for mirroring in your mental understanding, patience/impatience. When you view impatience, it is necessary for your mental configuration of understanding to be impatience/patience. We use this as a simple example. Most configurations of mind have many facets, and understanding of either self polarities, or what you would call other-self polarities, can and must be understood as subtle work.

The next step is the acceptance of the other-self polarities, which mirrors the second step.

These are the first four steps of learning mental discipline. The fifth step involves observing the geographical and geometrical relationships and ratios of the mind, the other mind, the mass mind, and the infinite mind.

The second area of learn/teaching is the study/understanding of the body complexes. It is necessary to know your body well. This is a matter of using the mind to examine how the feelings, the biases, what you would call the emotions, affect various portions of the body complex. It shall be necessary to both understand the bodily polarities and to accept them, repeating in a chemical/physical manifestation the work you have done upon the mind bethinking the consciousness.

The body is a creature of the mind’s creation. It has its biases. The biological bias must be first completely understood and then the opposite bias allowed to find full expression in understanding. Again, the process of acceptance of the body as a balanced, as well as polarized, individual may then be accomplished.

It is then the task to extend this understanding to the bodies of the other-selves whom you will meet. The simplest example of this is the understanding that each biological male is female; each biological female is male. This is a simple example. However, in almost every case wherein you are attempting the understanding of the body of self or other-self, you will again find that the most subtle discernment is necessary in order to fully grasp the polarity complexes involved.

At this time we would suggest closing the description until the next time of work so that we may devote time to the third area commensurate with its importance.

We can answer a query if it is a short one before we leave this instrument.

So I have the question what about polarity, should it be balanced also. On the one hand Ra are saying about increasing polarity, on another hand about balancing. To my opinion the polarity is mostly related to Spirit. Hence if entity is moving from third density to forth one it balances mind and increases polarity of the Spirit. But if entity is a Wanderer from sixth density it should balance positive and negative polarity also.

7.15

7.15 Questioner: What is the density of the Orion group?

Ra: I am Ra. Like the Confederation, the densities of the mass consciousnesses which comprise that group are varied. There are a very few third density, a larger number of fourth density, a similarly large number of fifth density, and very few sixth-density entities comprising this organization. Their numbers are perhaps one-tenth ours at any point in the space/time continuum as the problem of spiritual entropy causes them to experience constant disintegration of their social memory complexes. Their power is the same as ours. The Law of One blinks neither at the light or the darkness, but is available for service to others and service to self. However, service to others results in service to self, thus preserving and further harmonizing the distortions of those entities seeking intelligent infinity through these disciplines.

Those seeking intelligent infinity through the use of service to self create the same amount of power but, as we said, have constant difficulty because of the concept of separation which is implicit in the manifestations of the service to self which involve power over others. This weakens and eventually disintegrates the energy collected by such mind/body/spirit complexes who call the Orion group and the social memory complexes which comprise the Orion group.

It should be noted, carefully pondered, and accepted, that the Law of One is available to any social memory complex which has decided to strive together for any seeking of purpose, be it service to others or service to self. The laws, which are the primal distortions of the Law of One, then are placed into operation and the illusion of space/time is used as a medium for the development of the results of those choices freely made. Thus all entities learn, no matter what they seek. All learn the same, some rapidly, some slowly.

As a completeness within oneself my assumption as that the same is related to an entity, when the perfect balance of polarities are 1/10, so any increase of the negative or positive should be balanced to 1/10 again.

I think intensify the imbalance makes sense because if I have thought/emotion I have it because I want it (need experience/have programme). So if I haven’t lived it fully it means it has imbalance because I still need/want to complete it.

This does raise an interesting point, as I see it, in relation to the often presented bromide to seek love in the moment. I’m sure that idea causes confusion along the same lines regarding the seeming manufacturing emotion. But from my pov, as someone who had some training as a performer, it is not so “weird.”

First, regarding, “It’s very weird because typically we don’t just experience feelings on their own; we experience feelings in specific contexts…,” the exercise is explicitly meant to address an actual, tangible event. What’s seemingly “off” here is that the emotional responses are seen to be interchange or “fungible,” if you like.

For a performer, these are your A,B,C’s. Emotional currency simply is fungible.

This prompts the question, Is not your initial response the valid one and the others inauthentic substitutes. Well, consider an actor studying a role. With each re-reading the flow of emotion may shift this way or that. The performer is seeking within self to find the emotional companions for that scene which most deeply ring the bell of truth.

So, when one “replays” some significant event of the day, the goal is similar: Which emotions have the deepest ring of truth within my being.? Now, a person may only “audition” 3 or 4 emotions, or may “try out” a large range of emotions and thereby accept a wealth of possibilities as one’s own.

As I noted above, one purpose here is to uncouple self from, basically, selfish emotions, that is, to experience the freedom one has regarding emotional response to catalyst. In the course of such events, one may find that, beneath the selfish ideation of self what rings most deeply and most true is what we call Love. And one may discover within self that this emotional response is always on hand, if desired.

And this approach may move us closer to being capable of working with 4D light, as they call it…something which could be seen as a more important consideration than most others.

Very interesting points. I never considered the extent to which this manufactured emotion is the common coin of actors. And, of course, “authenticity“ is always the bugaboo of that profession, right? It’s worth mentioning that actors work with scripts that put their elicited feelings in specific contexts that prompt their emotional responses. I rather think the stimuli are more contrived; the responses are authentic even if they’re occurring in an imagined scenario. For what it’s worth, when I’ve asked Jim McCarty about just this issue, he’s suggested doing what you say: imagining scenarios that elicit the emotion. So it may be too much to ask seekers to work with the pure feeling tone absent any “handle”, and maybe my analysis is lacking in actionability. I must always consider that I’m full of it, and so must my other selves here.

Well, yes, you are full of magical love, full of lethargy, full of you-know-what. That’s why we’re talking about balance here. It’s the balancing of these things, like basketballs spinning upon your fingers, that allows us to the dunk them where we choose.

Again here, you’re bringing up the topic of pretension vs. authenticity. The more often and more deeply an actor seeks truth, the more the skill is developed. It brings to mind that movie with Wally Shawn, My Dinner with Andre that looks in the mirror at this concept.

Anyhow, you might find it helpful to plot these levels of skillful use of affect on a continuum, beginning with baby steps of conjuring emotion by eliciting memories of intense events and going up through an ability to easily find within self and then vibrate outwardly profound waves of purified love.

Of interest to me is that individuals in the main LLR group, as well as your offshoot, strike me as having rather little personal interest in deeply pursuing this approach to tuning of one instrument of consciousness, the monumental exception being Carla Rueckert. She was heavily into this, as I am given to understand it, when it came to one of the main avenues of refining emotion, namely, worship. The Confederation has much to say on this topic, as you might have noticed.

Or maybe I’m wrong about that? Maybe your Richmond group has a significant dedication to worship (beyond silent meditation) as part of its protocol? I’d be interested to read about that.

SHOTS FIRED!

I’ll let you be the judge; if my work doesn’t speak for itself, then I won’t try to speak on it here.

Well most of us in the circle are members of the church we meet at, so worship certainly plays a role. But I think it’s also building community, a safe space for the expression and exploration of these feelings. The Working Group places the highest priority on one-on-one check-ins with each other that allow for us to work with this somewhat.

For me I think music is how I reach deepest emotion (other than that which blasts through during contact, but I certainly wouldn’t take personal ownership of that). Music and poetry conveys the purest feelings and, if not exactly decoupled from concrete stimulus, at least the stimulus is more abstract and harder to narrativize in a straight ahead manner. Some of David Lynch’s work hits those notes with me, too.

One more edit: I actually think the deep emotion that comes through during contact is a mixed bag in terms of usefulness. It’s so easy to get swept away with it. You can abide these feelings and acknowledge without letting them call the shots, as it were. There’s a place for BOTH balance and depth, and how that becomes achieved is difficult to understand because it’s so personal. For example I think a lot of the fourth density work I was involved in got a bit sappy, and that’s not because the contact was too emotional – the contact will be as it will be – but because I didn’t know how to respond to it, so I just let it lead me in a gushy direction.

Dr. Tyman has provided me very useful guidance on that (and given the manifold life tragedies his service has endured through, I think his emotional intelligence is often under appreciated).

How exciting. :woman_superhero:

I’ve listened to many of your podcasts and read probably all your channelings and have observed much interest in conceptual matters and practical matters and esoteric matters. I’m simply observing that I’ve not seen a bent towards worship, aside from tuning exercises which precede channeling. You might considered this an invitation to explore new territory rather than a brazen act of provocation. Or not.

After all, why would anyone lean towards an interest in worship in the first place?

After all, why would anyone lean towards an interest in worship in the first place?

For those of us who weren’t brought up in a church, it’s a fair point – from where would the impulse to worship arise?

I’m very grateful to my church giving me this experience without all the dogma that usually tags along. I have been moved to tears many times in services, but lately I’ve been working on the AV team and haven’t been able to appreciate them as much. It’s worth it to give back, though.

I’m glad you feel free to issue criticisms of our work and I hope that continues. :green_heart: That is true community.

I was totally joking about the shots fired, by the way.

Yes, this is an interesting point. I suppose I’ll offer my reading on this and maybe it will provide some value.

One’s true polarity, by virtue of their Choice, aligns them with service to others or service to self. This polarity is perhaps balanced in 6th density as Ra mentions, but is ours to choose in devotion (either one or the other) here in 3rd density.

The polarity or emotional ‘charge’ that we may experience during catalyst is, on the other hand, a distortion or distraction from our alignment with service. This kind of charge brings discomfort and must be balanced or dissolved into love or it will continue to present itself and slow our karmic wheel.

Ah, well in that case, I was probably joking about being a female super hero.

And I’m not saying these things in a spirit of finger pointing. Once one begins pull head out of butt in terms of no longer being the servant of survival instincts and infantile needs, etc., one needs to have a sense of where to go from there. Worship is one place where the personal self can crossover into the realm of the higher self and float there for a time. This can be supportive and give some sense of perspective on one’s general project of learning to offer our instrument of consciousness to that which is ALL.

Couldn’t agree more, friend.

I apologize for dragging this out further, but there is one more crucial point I wish to post here.

As stated above, one begins to work with these things in simple ways and then moves deeper and deeper into self with them. The “feeling tones” of charity or forgiveness or open heartedness, as we discover such profundities within our deepest portions of conscious self, these become the bedrock of our personal faith. And our faith enables us to reach for purer and purer forms of light. And this is thither the threshold to 4D lies.

Worship can be one means of finding or vibrating those feeling elements progressively more deeply within our being.

This seems like an important topic.
It reminds me of a song. Here’s a
lyric improv for Law of One session 83

VEILING OF STARS
(Song beat similar to
Ryan Gosling, City Of Stars)

Veiling of Stars
In a mystery that helps me

Veiling of Stars
There’s some things I want to see

To grow
I seek this from a love embrace
that’s shared as true

Where now my dreams
bring clarity new

Veiling of Stars
It helps our evolution renew
From a vantage afar
Is seen our lives from a test of attitude
Through love
Yea through a genesis
of love we pierce the veil

A hush
A flash
A rush
At last

As like minds can surely find
Through doubling of kind
By desire to know then to seeking
By balance we get adept
We can pierce it tonight

In compassion we go
Enabled to know
What catalyst brings is for evolving
Our complex mind is the start

And by love is the way

Veiling of Stars
In a mystery that helps me
Veiling of Stars

Your mystery of love and light be

I likely fell out os synch with weekly sessions
on some level, but today I was pondering
another Ryan Gosling movie called
BladeRunner2049. The idea was around
going from Work/Life balance as using time
metrics to Work/Life integration using brain
perspective energy metrics. Like in the
movie, you survey your emotiinal wellbeing
to ensure a balanced state conducive to
good work Life integration, where imbalance
suggests degraded consequence. My idea
was not response time as much as energy
adjectives. For example when she spoke
I had inspired energy(10) when he spoke
I had mystified energy(8) when that issue
came up I felt disappointed energy(3) and
with traffic a defeating energy(2), etc.
Sum totaling ranked energy adjectives for
a daily score as measure to improve upon.
